Pull for Pride is a community fundraiser for the Vancouver Island Queer Athletic Association (VIQAA). All the money raised at Pull for Pride goes to VIQAA's grant fund which is given to LGBTQ+ youth who apply for a grant between the ages of 8-21 on Vancouver Island for sport/movement based needs. This deadlift event is welcome to anyone to lift at who is comfortable with the barbell deadlift movement. This is not a judged event. Each lifter will have their own lifting platform in their respective heat. The lifter will have between 20-30 minutes to reach a 1 rep max lift. There is a athlete area that lifters will warm up in and get ready to head out to the main deadlift area before their heat. A lifter is not expected to PR (personal record) their deadlift if they do not want to, however we encourage you to push yourself a little bit since lifting in front of a crowd often allows you to lift more than alone in a gym.

How does having a deadlift sponsor work? Each deadlifter can be sponsored by multiple people (some lifters in the past have had up to 10 sponsors). To keep this explanation simple a family member or friend can choose to sponsor your lift. A sponsor then pledges to donate an x amount per pound you deadlift. If you deadlift 150lbs and your sponsor has pledged to donate $0.25/per pound then their donation to VIQAA will be $37.50.We ask all lifters who register to send the sponsorship form to any family members, friends, partners, employers, businesses, etc that lifters would like to be sponsored by. You are not required to have a sponsor in order to lift, however it is a really fun way to involve your community in a bigger movement. This has been a great way to fundraise with an entire community becoming involved and invested in your lift!
